The weather has been very unsettled with a lot of sunny periods and warm temperatures (in the mid 20's C) but very windy with severe guts that were strong enough to move the car around while driving at 100 kmph. Today we took a 90 minute drive to a small town called Hermanus, which is famous for the large number of whales that spend their winter months here before heading back to Antarctica. In fact, Hermanus bills itself as the best land based whale watching experience in the world. The town has built a 12km (7.5 mile) cliff path around Walker Bay so people can whale watch from shore. All nine of the great whale species of the southern hemisphere pass through these waters but the most common and the biggest attraction is the massive southern right whale (so named from being the "right" one to kill due to their high oil and bone yields as well as they float when dead). Unfortunately, it was very windy and the seas were very rough and choppy so we did not spot any whales. However, it was a great day out as the drive along the coast was spectacular.

The only whale we spotted was this one made of old beer cans sitting on top of a waterfront bar

These clouds quickly appeared and started coming down from the mountain tops
A couple of baby baboons relaxing at the side of a pullout
